Eclipses sound mystical, but technically they’re just orbital mechanics at work. An eclipse happens when the Sun, Moon, and Earth line up just right. Twice a year, we get what’s called an “eclipse season,” a roughly 34-day window when the geometry is aligned for eclipses to be possible. Within that stretch, there’s usually at least one solar eclipse (the Moon blocking the Sun) and one lunar eclipse (Earth’s shadow falling on the Moon).

Of course, science is only half the story. Spiritually, eclipse season is known as a time of massive shifts, endings, beginnings, and course corrections. Solar eclipses bring fresh starts, sudden clarity, and big revelations—think of it as a new moon on steroids. Lunar eclipses are more about culminations, releases, and the truth rising to the surface, like an extra-intense full moon. The energy can feel chaotic, fast-moving, and a little out of your control, but it tends to push you onto the right path with rocket speed.

This September 7–8 kicks off a total lunar eclipse. This means the things you’ve been avoiding, suppressing, or burying may finally come to light. It’s an invitation to heal, release, and move forward in a huge way. You might also see chapters closing—sometimes by choice, sometimes not. Either way, trust that whatever ends now is clearing space for something better that’s aligned with your greater good.

5 ways to survive eclipse season

01 Emotional Intensity & BIG Releases

Lunar eclipses are essentially turbo-charged full moons. Emotions rise to the surface, often in ways that feel sudden or unavoidable. Expect revelations, endings, or old wounds resurfacing so they can finally be let go. ✨🪽

Tip: Create an emotional outlet. Whether it’s journaling, a workout, voice memo-ing yourself, or even having a “rage walk,” give your emotions somewhere to go instead of bottling them up. The opportunity with eclipse season is to let it go. Don’t let yourself play the victim card or get sucked back into old habits.

02 Major Closures and Turning Points

If solar eclipses kick off beginnings, lunar eclipses wrap things up. You might see relationships, habits, or projects come to a natural (or sometimes dramatic) end. Think of it as a door closing so another can open. 🧩🌱

Tip: Facilitate the release. You know some of what’s holding you back. Write down what you’re ready to close the chapter on (a toxic habit, mindset, or situation) and rip it up, burn it, toss it out, or, a personal favorite, go for a drive and scream it (sounds crazy, feels amazing).

03 Illumination of Hidden Truths

Because eclipses involve shadows, astrologers say they reveal what’s been concealed. Secrets, realizations, or “aha” moments can surface, bringing clarity about situations you’ve felt uncertain about. 🪐🥂

Tip: Practice radical honesty. When something is revealed, instead of resisting, ask: What is this showing me that I need to acknowledge? Don’t let yourself use any excuses; be COMPLETELY honest even if it feels ugly or uncomfortable.

04 Karmic & Fated Shifts

Eclipses are often described as “course corrections.” You may feel pulled toward something that feels destined or nudged away from what isn’t aligned—even if you wouldn’t have chosen it yourself. 💎🦋

Tip: Loosen your grip. For at least one area of your life (work, relationships, routines), practice letting go of the “plan” and see what happens if you allow space for something unexpected. Think stuff like following a nudge or saying yes to a surprise invite. The biggest rule of eclipse season: don’t force it, let it unfold.

05 Rest, Don’t Manifest

Unlike a normal full moon (when people often set intentions and goals), eclipse energy is considered too volatile. The best ritual is actually no ritual: rest, journal, reflect, and let the shifts unfold instead of trying to control them. 🪡🪩

Tip: Schedule intentional downtime. Block off an evening for a long walk, a decadent bath, or meditation—whatever is going to give your brain a chance to zone out and open up to any divine messages. Your job isn’t to do during an eclipse; it’s to recharge and stay receptive to whatever clarity is coming.
