A seasonal guide to purging, sanctifying your space, and designing a home that feels lighter to live in

Purge the Energy (Clearing & Neutralizing)
Spring is a naturally presented fresh start, so let’s take full advantage of it.
The first phase is clearing out anything that’s currently lingering, and before we even get to saging, we start with a purge. That natural spring reset energy makes it so much easier to finally let go of the things you no longer need. Make a slow pass through your home with two baskets or bags: one for trash and one for donate. Don’t overthink it, just trust the immediate yes or no. If it doesn’t feel like it belongs in this next season of your life, it goes.
Once that’s done, open all the windows and get your sage ready. Saging your space is one of those rituals that tends to get labeled as woo woo, even though the results behind it are actually science-backed. While it’s often used to neutralize or move out negative energy, it has also been shown to reduce airborne bacteria by up to 94%.

Look for a white sage bundle at a local shop, light the ends, and gently blow them out. Then walk through your entire home with the windows open, allowing the smoke to lightly move through each space. You might expect this to leave your home smelling smoky, but instead it creates an atmosphere that feels noticeably lighter, with just a subtle, herbaceous scent.
It’s important to remember that saging clears the energy and creates a neutral foundation, which is why the next step is to intentionally sanctify your space.

Sanctify the Space (Ritual & Intention)
This is where my cradle Catholic tendencies show up. Now that you have a fresh, neutral space, we need to protect it and set intentions for it.
Start with a small dish of oil and pray over the oil for protection against any negative energy and to declare your authority over your home. Go to each doorway and mirror in your home, pray over it, and mark the door with a small cross.
Dedicate a candle. Say a prayer over your candle for the protection and intentions you want to set for your home, then light it and let it burn while you reset the rest of your space.

The Entry Point Reset (Front Door Energy)
The front door reset comes from a more feng shui–inspired approach. The front door is considered the mouth of the home, and when it’s cleansed and cared for, it’s said to invite in abundance, opportunity, and positive energy.
You can lean into this by washing the door inside and out with soap, water, and an essential oil of your choosing (my favorite). Sweep the entryway outward, replace any worn mats or decor, and maybe bring in a few fresh plants. Make sure the door is moving smoothly and fully repaired if it needs it.
From there, you can take it a step further and think about the entry as a threshold moment. I love running a diffuser right in the entryway so that when you step inside, it feels like an immediate shift. The outside world falls away a bit, and you’re met with a space that feels intentional, soft, and reset.

Light, Air, and Scent (Atmosphere Shift)
A mix of practical and sensory upgrades. If you want the atmosphere of your home to feel different for spring, start with the basics: light, air, and scent. Those three things change everything more than most people realize. A fresh spring scent is also one of the easiest shifts to make, especially with our elevated diffuser blends that feel so clean 😉
If you have candles out, this is the moment to retire anything heavy or wintery. Think cozy woods and spice out, and fresh greens, soft citrus, and bright florals in. It’s a small swap, but it changes the entire mood of a room.
Then take a slow look at your light. Where can you let more of it in? Even subtle changes make a difference. I love using creative privacy tints on any public-facing windows so you get softness and privacy without blocking that natural glow.
Edit the Space (Visual & Textural Reset)
Now the fun part. Just like you retired any of those candles that give cozy, winter, slow season vibes, we’re also going to edit for texture, which will immediately lighten your space. We want to reflect the season, not fight it. Swap any heavy pillows, blankets, duvets, etc. for linen, cotton, and lighter, airier textures.

Next, swap out the pictures in the frames around the house. Your brain picks up on different visuals and energy when you move through a space, so even small changes like this can shift how a room feels.
Plants are another major way to alter not only the visuals but the energy. Living things naturally bring more life into a space. And take it or leave it, but a few crystals scattered throughout can really shift the vibe. Try rose quartz under your bed or jade in the “money corner.”
Fix the Energy Leaks (Especially for my type b girls)
Lastly, we want to lighten anything in the home that is secretly draining your energy. The goal is to remove friction from daily life. The number one thing here is lingering unfinished tiny projects (the things you said you’d come back to later and finish.) They’re not always top of mind, but every time you walk by them, your subconscious is still registering them.
Another way to lighten mental drain is to edit your systems so they work for you, rather than you having to force yourself to use them. So for example, if there’s always dirty laundry on your bathroom floor, just add another laundry basket to that exact area. Who cares if it wasn’t the original plan, it works.
If you keep forgetting to drink water, don’t just “try harder.” Put a filled glass or bottle in the exact places you already exist: bedside, bathroom counter, kitchen counter, anywhere it stays in your line of sight.
If mail or random paper clutter builds up or you keep misplacing your keys, create a single “landing tray” where everything goes immediately instead of spreading across counters. The goal is containment, not perfection.
If you’ve been forgetting to take your pills or supplements, put them in a case and leave it on top of your toothbrush or next to the coffee maker. It should feel like it takes more effort to skip the habit than to just do it.
